Glam Girl: Lacey
We’re very excited to introduce another one of our fabulous closet owners, 23-year-old Lacey Orr from Sunny + Turquoise. Lacey hails from Chicago, Illinois and her approach to fashion is classic and fun with just enough added sparkle. You can shop her closet here or read on to discover what inspires Lacey, her style icons and her favorite beauty tips…
What motivated you to start your blog?
The inspiration was my closet, my favorite room. I realized I had all of these pieces of clothing, jewelry, and accessories and had nothing to show for it. I decided to start taking pictures and documenting my outfits, hoping it could give others inspiration in their own daily wardrobe. I think it will be fun to look back in a few years and see how my style has evolved and changed!
How does the city you live in inspire your day-to-day fashion?
Because Chicago can be freezing and negative temperatures one minute and warm and sunny the next, I get to layer fun pieces more than my friends scattered throughout the consistently warmer states. Chunky cable knit sweaters, fur vests, heavier boots, and flannels are some of my favorite pieces to wear around the Chicagoland.
I would say Chicago is a place filled with individuals who are constantly on the go and need to be dressed in a style that will take them from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m., which ultimately sums up my outlook for getting dressed each morning.
Who are your style icons?
I have always loved Rachel Bilson’s style. She has such a great mix of grungy-chic and always pulls her outfits together with the most unique pieces all while looking so effortless.
Name one piece every woman should have in her closet and why?
I believe that one staple piece that everyone needs and can’t go wrong with is a perfect fitting pair of black skinny jeans. They are easily my go-to piece to dress up with a pair of heels and fancy top, or dress down with flats, flip-flops, a pair of boots and a sweater.
Every woman should have a pair of great black skinnies simply because they instantly make you slimmer and suck you in! Who doesn’t want that?
What items do you always carry in your handbag?
Besides the basic wallet, keys, and a ridiculous number of pens, I always carry a Tide To Go Pen because I am ALWAYS spilling things on me! I have a monogrammed business card holder for my job, lipsticks and glosses, mini deodorant, tweezers, hand lotion, kleenex, a mini roller ball perfume, and extra hair ties and bobby pins. I cram all of the little items into a small makeup bag to stay organized.
What is the best beauty trick you’ve ever learned?
Filling in my eyebrows! I use to think I had decent eyebrows since they were relatively thick, on the darker side and had a shape that I was happy with. On a whim, I grabbed an expensive eyebrow pencil, shaped and filled them in more, and my life has never been the same.
If I only had to do one thing to my face before leaving the house, hands down it would be this quick and easy trick. I think it’s incredible how much filling in your eyebrows defines and shapes your face while completely enhancing your look!
Tell us… what is something not many people know about you?
People are always surprised to know that I grew up hunting! I don’t get to do it as much anymore since I moved to the suburbs, but I do own a gun and enjoy going with my dad when I can!
What are your favorite prints or colors to mix? Do you have any tips?
My favorite print of the moment is easily leopard. I recently purchased a medium length faux fur leopard coat with a hood from Forever21 and I’m slightly obsessed with it. Leopard shoes, scarfs, and sweaters have stolen my heart lately, but I try to space out when I wear them so I don’t look like a walking animal all of the time.
When you need a little pick-me-up, how do you add sparkle to your life and feel good?
I do a number of things depending on why I need a little pick-me-up. A few things that lift me up are giving myself a fresh manicure, organizing my closet (I see things I have forgotten about and it then feels like I just went shopping! Also, clean spaces make me ridiculously happy), doing an at-home spa day, and pulling myself together with hair, makeup, outfit and some jewelry to meet up with a girlfriend or even just to run a few errands.
How do you start your day? Do you have a morning routine?
I always try to prolong getting out of bed by checking social media and inevitably dropping my phone on my face. On the weekdays, I start off with a warm shower and then put on a country music Pandora station while I do my makeup and hair. I never leave myself enough time to not be in a rush, so while I’m showering, I’m running though my closet in my head pulling an outfit together. I finish it off by rushing out the door with a banana and granola bar for the car ride. Unfortunately not a glamorous routine, but I want every last second of sleep I can get!
