It’s no secret that we’ve been obsessed with Caitlin’s fabulous style for a long time now, so we couldn’t be more thrilled to be discovering more about her today…
What motivated you to start your blog?
I started my blog in my third year of law school as a much needed creative outlet. I have always had a knack for playing dress up and I decided it was time I try doing what I love as a hobby (and I hoped others would enjoy it too). It took me a long time to build up the courage to finally pull the trigger, but I finally realized there will never be the “perfect time.” You just have to be willing to go for it… and I did.
How does the city you live in inspire your day-to-day fashion?
I recently moved to Arizona with my husband and it has been a big change from the ever-constant San Diego weather that we were used to. In the desert it can go from 120 degrees down to 30 degrees and back up again. As a result, Scottsdale has had a big influence on my day-to-day wear and I have had to learn to be ready for whatever as we explore our new state.
Who are your style icons?
I will always admire Diane Kruger for her edgy picks with feminine flair. She can rock a menswear suit and hat with a sexy bold red lip like no other. I also love watching Olivia Palmero for her fun and flirty frocks. I’d love to steal her closet for a day (er, lifetime).
Name one piece every woman should have in her closet and why?
I am a huge fan of sneakers. Not only are they comfortable, but they can be a perfect way to dress down an otherwise dressy outfit and they give your ensemble a little does of “cool.” I also believe you cannot go wrong with a good blazer because they are so versatile.
What items do you always carry in your handbag?
I cannot leave home without a chic pair of sunglasses and my YSL lipsticks. They just feel like butter and when I need a little extra oomph to my look it’s a good way to go. Oh, and I kind of sort of cannot go anywhere without a little brush to tame this beast of a hair of mine.
What is the best beauty trick you’ve ever learned?
I used to get a little eyeliner happy on my bottom lashes. As I have gotten older I have realized that lining only my top lashes with a little subtle cat eye really opens up and brightens my eyes, giving the appearance of bigger eyes. Now I save the sultry bottom-lash liner for sexier occasions.
Tell us… what is something not many people know about you?
Although it may not come across this way because I am pretty goofy and like being silly, I am actually quite shy and have a hard time letting people in on my private life. I mean, I used to be so scared of just ordering a meal from a stranger/waiter at a restaurant… I would have my mom do it for me (aren’t mom’s wonderful for taking such good care of us?!). Thank goodness I grew out of that phase and I am working on opening up more.
What are your favorite prints or colors to mix? Do you have any tips?
For me, leopard prints have always been a closet staple and a neutral in my book. I love mixing animal prints with stripes and/or dots for a fun geometric contrast. I am also a sucker for pink and pair with anything from red to lime green for a little unexpected pop.
When you need a little pick-me-up, how do you add sparkle to your life and feel good?
Besides a morning salted caramel hot chocolate from Starbucks, I love picking up fresh flowers, getting a manicure or buying a new nail polish or lipstick for a little added slice of happiness. Since we moved to Arizona I also love googling new places to try and exploring our new home… it makes it feel more like, well, home.
How do you start your day? Do you have a morning routine?
The first thing I do in the morning is check my phone (which is a habit I REALLY need to break). I then try to get my butt to the gym for some feel-good endorphins or do some form of exercise like running, hiking, biking or tennis. In an ideal world I then check my emails (which, let’s be honest… rarely happens). Then the rest of my day falls in line.
