 photo kat3EDITED_zps74d14320.jpg

What motivated you to start your blog?
After graduating from college with a degree in design I started to miss the creative outlet my classes provided. I started my blog as a way to document the things I love and 3 years later it’s my full time job!

How does the city you live in inspire your day-to-day fashion?
I love seeing chic girls in the street and admiring the beautiful store windows around the city. Living in NYC has pushed me to be more fashion forward and take risks!

Who are your style icons?
Jackie Kennedy, my mom, and Miranda Kerr.

 photo kat1EDITED_zps05957901.jpg

Name one piece every woman should have in her wardrobe and why?
It’s hard to name one! Black skinny jeans – because they can dressed up or down. I live in them!

What items do you always carry in your handbag?
Wallet, cellphone, planner, Mac lipgloss in C-Thru, antibacterial stuff for when I take the subway, and Celine sunglasses.

 photo kat2EDITED_zps9375649d.jpg

What is the best beauty trick you’ve ever learned?
Foundation!!! I didn’t start using it until a few months ago – it is life changing. I use Giorgio Armani foundation #6.5.

Tell us…what is something not many people know about you?
I can wiggle my ears! It’s a super random inherited trait from my mom! :)

 photo Kat6EDITED_zps64e02f96.jpg

What are your favourite prints or colors to mix? Do you have any tips?
I love stripes, neutrals, paisley! Stripes + leopard print is a really cute combo right now.

When you need a little pick-me-up, how do you add sparkle to your life and feel good?
Flowers, mani/pedis, a spritz of my favorite perfume… CHOCOLATE!

How do you start your day? Do you have a morning routine?
As soon as I wake up I make myself a green smoothie (coconut water, pineapple, raspberries, spinach, almond butter and flax seed.) Then I head to my desk and start tackling the emails and working on projects.

Caitlin is a Utah-turned-Arizonan and delivers a colorful, playful style that is as feminine as it is classic. It’s easy to see why A Little Dash of Darling has become a daily source of inspiration to all those who follow it. It’s no secret that we’ve been obsessed with Caitlin’s fabulous style for a long time now, so we couldn’t be more thrilled to be discovering more about her today…
 photo darling1EDITED_zpscd509b86.jpg

What motivated you to start your blog?
I started my blog in my third year of law school as a much needed creative outlet. I have always had a knack for playing dress up and I decided it was time I try doing what I love as a hobby (and I hoped others would enjoy it too). It took me a long time to build up the courage to finally pull the trigger, but I finally realized there will never be the “perfect time.” You just have to be willing to go for it… and I did.

How does the city you live in inspire your day-to-day fashion?
I recently moved to Arizona with my husband and it has been a big change from the ever-constant San Diego weather that we were used to. In the desert it can go from 120 degrees down to 30 degrees and back up again. As a result, Scottsdale has had a big influence on my day-to-day wear and I have had to learn to be ready for whatever as we explore our new state.

Who are your style icons?
I will always admire Diane Kruger for her edgy picks with feminine flair. She can rock a menswear suit and hat with a sexy bold red lip like no other. I also love watching Olivia Palmero for her fun and flirty frocks. I’d love to steal her closet for a day (er, lifetime).

 photo Darling5EDITED_zps20243924.jpg

Name one piece every woman should have in her closet and why?
I am a huge fan of sneakers. Not only are they comfortable, but they can be a perfect way to dress down an otherwise dressy outfit and they give your ensemble a little does of “cool.” I also believe you cannot go wrong with a good blazer because they are so versatile.

What items do you always carry in your handbag?
I cannot leave home without a chic pair of sunglasses and my YSL lipsticks. They just feel like butter and when I need a little extra oomph to my look it’s a good way to go. Oh, and I kind of sort of cannot go anywhere without a little brush to tame this beast of a hair of mine.

 photo darling2EDITED_zps51aea536.jpg

What is the best beauty trick you’ve ever learned?
I used to get a little eyeliner happy on my bottom lashes. As I have gotten older I have realized that lining only my top lashes with a little subtle cat eye really opens up and brightens my eyes, giving the appearance of bigger eyes. Now I save the sultry bottom-lash liner for sexier occasions.

Tell us… what is something not many people know about you?
Although it may not come across this way because I am pretty goofy and like being silly, I am actually quite shy and have a hard time letting people in on my private life. I mean, I used to be so scared of just ordering a meal from a stranger/waiter at a restaurant… I would have my mom do it for me (aren’t mom’s wonderful for taking such good care of us?!). Thank goodness I grew out of that phase and I am working on opening up more.

 photo darling3EDITED_zps9d9a7e33.jpg

What are your favorite prints or colors to mix? Do you have any tips?
For me, leopard prints have always been a closet staple and a neutral in my book. I love mixing animal prints with stripes and/or dots for a fun geometric contrast. I am also a sucker for pink and pair with anything from red to lime green for a little unexpected pop.

When you need a little pick-me-up, how do you add sparkle to your life and feel good?
Besides a morning salted caramel hot chocolate from Starbucks, I love picking up fresh flowers, getting a manicure or buying a new nail polish or lipstick for a little added slice of happiness. Since we moved to Arizona I also love googling new places to try and exploring our new home… it makes it feel more like, well, home.

How do you start your day? Do you have a morning routine?
The first thing I do in the morning is check my phone (which is a habit I REALLY need to break). I then try to get my butt to the gym for some feel-good endorphins or do some form of exercise like running, hiking, biking or tennis. In an ideal world I then check my emails (which, let’s be honest… rarely happens). Then the rest of my day falls in line.

Veronica Levy – Lombard & Fifth

What motivated you to start your blog?
I have always had a tremendous love for fashion and was thrilled to discover other fashion blogs, which inspired me to start my own. I love the idea of daily outfit inspiration and connecting with other girls who are as excited about fashion as I am.

How does the city you live in inspire your day-to-day fashion?
San Francisco is a constant inspiration with its ever changing neighborhoods, food and street style. Everywhere you look from the heavily graffiti’d walls in the Haight to amazing little shops in Hayes Valley, the inspiration is just endless.

Who are your style icons?
There are so many women whose style I admire. The ones who stand out the most are the ones who are not afraid to take a risk with their style. From Carrie Washington and Sarah Jessica Parker (and of course Carrie herself!) to Victoria Beckham, and Daphne Guinness. I often fantasize about the endless fashion options these ladies have and how I would style the pieces I see on them.

Name one piece every woman should have in her wardrobe and why?
I think a great, well made coat goes a very long way. A crisp white or black, that complements any outfit you have under it, can give your overall look a very polished finish. And it is a piece you can invest in and wear for years to come.

What items do you always carry in your handbag?
I can’t live without having multiple EOS lip balms rolling around in my bag, as well as a great lip gloss. I am also addicted to using cuticle oil multiple times a day. It’s like Chap Stick – once you start, you can’t stop. And it’s amazing what a refreshing look a little dab will give to your manicure. On the more practical side, I always have a notebook (the cover of mine says “Brilliant Ideas”) in my bag, to jot down ideas for my blog, write down little inspirations and my never ending crafting to do lists.

What is the best beauty trick you’ve ever learned?
Never use a brow pencil, always a brush. It will give a much softer, more natural look and you’ll never run the risk of having those scary looking drawn on sharpie brows. A make-up artist told me this a very long time ago and it totally changed my beauty routine.

Tell us…what is something not many people know about you?
My close friends know this all too well, but not so much my readers. I am a huge Bravo reality show junkie and could win any Housewives trivia game with my eyes closed. It is such a guilty pleasure and one I wouldn’t give up for anything!

What are your favourite prints or colors to mix? Do you have any tips?
I am a self diagnosed monochromatic junky, so I often dress head to toe in shades of grey, light blue, or navy. Lately though, I have been venturing out of my mono bubble and going for really bright prints, careful not to overdo it. My rule is, “Have one ‘stand out’ piece, whether it’s a skirt, top or a statement necklace, and let that be the anchor of the look” It’s so easy to overdo it with prints or loud colors. Less is always more in my book.

When you need a little pick-me-up, how do you add sparkle to your life and feel good?
I love making my home look beautiful, and when I want to feel new and fresh I head to the San Francisco flower mart, grab some blooms and make three or four arrangements to put all over the house. It’s amazing what fresh flowers will do to brighten up your day and make you feel great. It helps that I have a huge love for flower arranging, so it’s a great stress reliever activity as well.

How do you start your day? Do you have a morning routine?
It’s funny how your morning routine changes after you have a baby. Mine used to be, grabbing a leisurely coffee, taking a long shower and then sitting down in front of my vanity to do a full on hair and make –up look every single day. Now, from 6am to 7am I run around like a maniac getting a 2-year-old to want to put on her clothes, have breakfast, and not hug the dogs too hard. Then after she is off to pre school, sitting down at the vanity, taking a deep breath and trying to figure out if I washed my hair yesterday. This is where having date nights and blog shoots make you feel like you can still glam it up and show off your fab side. Whether or not your daughter stole all of your lipsticks and hid them in her crayon box.

What motivated you to start your blog?
I started my blog because I’ve always wanted to inspire others. I know, that sounds cliche. But it’s true! I also always dreamt of having my own little creative space where I could share with anyone and everyone the evolution of my sense of style, as well as my own personal growth! Ever since I can remember, I’ve been fascinated by all things fashion and beauty. I started when I was younger. I no longer let my mom pick out my outfits in the morning (this was at age three!) and I started dressing myself. I love how everyone has a different sense of style and how that represents who you are and what kind of person you are.

How does the city you live in inspire your day-to-day fashion?
Miami is a melting pot. It’s definitely a bit crazy and overwhelming at times, but I’ve grown up here so I’m used to it. It’s definitely influenced my style because I’ve tested the limits, tried out different trends and have really pushed my boundaries because of Miami. It’s also always (almost) hot in Miami. So definitely preparing outfits based on the weather, whether it’s winter or summer, has been a huge factor in my day-to-day fashion.

 photo fashionista1EDITED_zpsbdece7d5.jpg

Who are your style icons?
My style icons would have to be Olivia Palermo and Jessica Alba. I love their classic yet feminine style and wish I could take a few things from each of their wardrobes!

Name one piece every woman should have in her wardrobe and why?
Every woman should have a LBD. But, besides that, I think every woman should have one nice purse. Why? Because it’s an investment. I started saving and buying purses when I was young. It was my thing and still is. I love purses but I especially appreciate those purses that I saved up for. Purses are something you can keep forever. So why not save up, whether it be in a piggy bank or savings account, for the purse of your dreams?

What items do you always carry in your handbag?
I always have a lipgloss. My favorite is Dior Addict Lip Glow. It really just enhances your own lip color but is moisturizes at the same time. I have a business card holder from Vera Bradley that holds my business cards (you never know when you’re going to need them). I also have my big wallet, my little keychain wallet, a small perfume bottle to freshen up after a long day, an umbrella to prevent a potential wardrobe and hair disaster, a notebook to jot down any ideas for the blog and my powder. Oh, and I also always carry gum! You never know when you’re going to be craving that garlic bread roll…

 photo fashionista5EDITED_zpsb928a9e5.jpg

What is the best beauty trick you’ve ever learned?
Not to wear makeup everyday! I know, as girls, it’s hard. But if you let your skin breathe every now and then, you’ll see a huge difference.

Tell us…what is something not many people know about you?
One thing not many people know about me is that I am extremely (and I mean extremely) sensitive. I take everything to heart and it kills me when someone is unhappy with me or doesn’t like me. My family always tells me that not everyone is always going to like me, but it still kills me. I also used to be bullied all throughout middle school and high school. In a way, my blog is a way to show those who hurt me that I’m not knocked down, but instead standing up taller than ever.

What are your favourite prints or colors to mix? Do you have any tips?
I love mixing leopard and plaid! It’s my latest favorite. I also love leopard and stripes. Basically, anything leopard. If I could give one tip to anyone mixing prints, I would say to just go for it. Ask a friend or two before heading out the door (trust me, this will only benefit you!) and feel brave and confident in your decision to really just go for it.

 photo fashionista3EDITED_zps0ab15f6a.jpg

When you need a little pick-me-up, how do you add sparkle to your life and feel good?
When I’m feeling down and want to feel better, I buy fresh flowers. There’s something so great and uplifting about a fresh bouquet and it’s really something I enjoy. I also love getting manicures. Not for anyone else, but for myself. It’s a great feeling looking put-together even if you don’t feel your best. Dress to impress no matter how up or down you’re feeling!

How do you start your day? Do you have a morning routine?
I start my day by getting woken up by my chihuahua, Iggy. I then wash my face, brush my teeth, eat some breakfast and the rest of the day depends on what my plans are. Sometimes I’ll work on some posts and answer emails before I head out the door, while other days I’ll be catching up on Scandal.

Amanda Sanchez - Little Miss Fearless Interview - Bloggers Closet

Tell us, what is it you love most about blogging?
I love the challenge of putting together new looks (whether recycling old clothes or adopting new trends) and sharing them with my fellow fashion enthusiasts. It’s always fun to connect with other bloggers who share the same hobby, but with a different point of view. Like most bloggers, I love the creative outlet that blogging provides and it’s also an outlet for me to face the fear of being judged by my outward appearance. That’s why connecting with readers is so rewarding. It makes me feel like my personality (who I really am) is shining through.

How would you describe your style in three words?
Casual, classic and colourful.

Amanda Sanchez - Little Miss Fearless Interview - Bloggers Closet

Where do you draw your fashion inspiration from?
I can find inspiration in just about anything, including the imperfect things in life. I see myself as imperfect, so when I find other women who confidently embrace their flaws, this inspires me to enjoy being me (flaws and all). Because my style is very colorful, I often get ideas for print and pattern pairings from kids’ clothing lines (Crew Cuts is my fave). I also love to browse Pinterest, brand catalogues and beauty/fashion magazines. A few of my fashion icons include Zoe Saldana, Olivia Palermo and Jenna Lyons.

Do you have one wardrobe item you couldn’t live without?
Besides my supportive husband, distressed jeans and my go-to flats, I can’t live without my Mac lipsticks in ‘Crème Cup’ or ‘Angel’ – I wear both like a chapstick every single day. And if we’re including accessories, my Fitbit is my latest addiction (can’t wait to get the new Tory Burch bands!).

Amanda Sanchez - Little Miss Fearless Interview - Bloggers Closet

Mixing colors, patterns and prints can be tricky – what are your tips for making it all work?
I always look for balance when mixing prints and patterns. Balance in the colors typically means including a neutral (yes, even if it’s leopard!). Stripes are my no-fail option when trying a new pattern/print pairing because it’s easy to balance shapes (florals, polka dots, etc.) with lines. I’ve gotten a little tired of gingham lately because I think it’s overused in the fashion blogosphere, but there’s definitely an art to not overdoing it, whatever the combination is. That said, when I’m going for a bold look and trying something new, I have to put my courage into overdrive and just go for it.

What is the most memorable fashion purchase you have made?
This is a tough one. I love when I make a purchase and the item becomes a wardrobe staple. Not only will I get my money’s worth, but I feel great every time I wear that item. I especially love if the item is unique. I typically find my most unique (and most memorable) tops from Anthropologie. But my last most memorable purchase was the Tory Burch ‘Plaque Satchel’ I scored at the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale. I feel like royalty when I carry that bag and I didn’t even pay full price for it!

Amanda Sanchez - Little Miss Fearless Interview - Bloggers Closet

For someone starting to build their wardrobe, what are three must-have items you would suggest to invest in?
1. A great-fitting pair of distressed denim (whether skinny or boyfriend jeans).
2. A bright lipstick (I wear St. Germain by Mac on the regular. It’s the right amount of bright pink for me, but also compliments my skin tone.).
3. A neutral (black or brown), genuine leather handbag (it doesn’t have to be designer, but I highly recommend investing in a Michael Kors, Tory Burch or Madewell bag–you’ll carry it for a long time before it ever goes out of style!).
4. Bonus item–anything leopard! :)

If you could go on a vacation tomorrow, where would you go?
Maui. No question about it. I was fortunate enough to live in Maui a few years ago and I can’t get enough of it. Every time we plan a vacation, I feel like I should try something new, but my heart will always be in Maui.

Amanda Sanchez - Little Miss Fearless Interview - Bloggers Closet

What would be your advice to an aspiring fashion blogger?
Learn from your fellow fashion bloggers, but don’t pay too much attention to them. You have to be yourself to be different. It’s okay to adopt trends even if followers think you’re copying other bloggers. Just don’t get caught up in comparing yourself (your body, your style or your income) to others. Most of all, don’t be afraid to TRY.

Just for fun, if there was a movie to be made about your life, which celebrity would you want to play you?
Probably someone spunky like Cameron Diaz. I can’t call her my doppelganger, but I love her style and free-spirited personality. And she’s super fit…something I’ll continue to strive for until I die. ;)

Chic, edgy, versatile.

Do you have one wardrobe item you couldn’t live without?
I couldn’t live with out my black booties! I wear them all the time no matter the season.

Mixing colors, patterns and prints can be tricky – what are your tips for making it all work?
I am all for pattern mixing and color blocking. Be bold and take chances and you will figure out what works and what doesn’t. You need to be willing to experiment to find the perfect combinations.

What is the most memorable fashion purchase you have made?
My Phillip Lim oxford flats I purchased this past fall.

For someone starting to build their wardrobe, what are three must-have items you would suggest to invest in?
Every girl should invest in a good pair of black pumps. There will always be a need for the perfect black pumps! Spend some time finding the perfect fit jeans for your body and invest in a well made pair. Denim is a style staple and one of the most versatile pieces in a woman’s wardrobe. A LBD would be the third “must have” piece to invest in. The little black dress is a classic piece and one of the most essential pieces to own. The transformation from day to night takes only minutes with the right accessories and shoes.

If you could go on a vacation tomorrow, where would you go?
Bora Bora without a doubt!

Tell us, what is it you love most about blogging?
I love all the people I get to connect with! I have made some great friends through blogging, like Bloggers Closet founder, Lauren. And I love talking with my readers via email. When I get an email form someone who reads my blog, it makes my day.

How would you describe your style in three words?
Polished, Relaxed, and Classic

Where do you draw your fashion inspiration from?
I get fashion inspiration from everywhere. I read blogs & magazines, search Pinterest, and people watch when I’m running errands. I even get inspired by color combos I see in nature or home decor.

 photo Kacie3EDITED_zps7efd01ee.jpg

Do you have one wardrobe item you couldn’t live without?
My dark wash skinny jeans. I love them! If I could wear them every second of every day, I would. Unfortunately, they need to be washed every once in a while so I can’t wear them 24/7.

Mixing colors, patterns and prints can be tricky – what are your tips for making it all work?
The best tip I have for mixing patterns and prints is to stick to the same color pallet. Stripes look amazing with just about every print out there so they are always my go-to. When print mixing, make sure one print is smaller than the other. If both prints are big and bold, they will compete with each other for attention.

 photo kacie5EDITED_zps4459d193.jpg

What is the most memorable fashion purchase you have made?
I bought an amazing pair of real leather cognac boots and have worn them each winter for the last 5 years and they are still in great shape. The best part is that I scored them on major sale at Marshalls for only $65!

For someone starting to build their wardrobe, what are three must-have items you would suggest to invest in?
A nice white blouse, a great pair of dark wash jeans, and a black moto jacket. Those are the three pieces I can’t live without. I’ve invested in all three and it has paid off.

If you could go on a vacation tomorrow, where would you go?
I would go wherever I can swim with a manatee. They are my favorite animal and it has always been my dream to swim with one. I’d also love to go to the Maldive Islands, Scotland, New Zealand, Hawaii, and the Carolina’s.

 photo Kacie4EDITED_zpsbafa17cd.jpg

What would be your advice to an aspiring fashion blogger?
My advice is to be yourself. You readers want to see the real you so give them that. Don’t compare yourself to other bloggers because that will only stress you out and bring you down. Trust me, I’ve been there. Enjoy the blogging world and you will be happy.

Just for fun, if there was a movie to be made about your life, which celebrity would you want to play you?
I would want Emma Stone to play me. I’ve recently decided she’s my favorite celebrity and I just love her! She’s seems so down-to-earth and funny. She’s so gorgeous. Plus, she can beat Jimmy Fallon in a lip syncing contest with her amazing rapping skills. A girl after my own heart.

How would you describe your style in three words?

Where do you draw your fashion inspiration from?
I get most of my inspiration from magazines, blogs and Pinterest. But, honestly, I really just try to stay true to myself and what I feel most comfortable in.

Do you have one wardrobe item you couldn’t live without?
Three items I couldn’t live with out are my distressed denim, cut off shorts and flip flops. All are simple pieces, but ones I wear on constant rotation.

Mixing colors, patterns and prints can be tricky – what are your tips for making it all work?
My tip is that that really aren’t any rules to mixing colors and prints. As long as you feel confident in what you’re wearing, you can really pull anything off. I tend to stick with stripes, dots and florals when mixing. That is just my preference.

What is the most memorable fashion purchase you have made?
Because I am a bargain shopper and tend to stick with more affordable pieces, I really don’t have a certain moment or item that stands out. My closet and wardrobe are pretty basic.

For someone starting to build their wardrobe, what are three must-have items you would suggest to invest in?
Solid tops
A favorite pair of denim
Basic blazer

If you could go on a vacation tomorrow, where would you go?
Turks & Caicos

What would be your advice to an aspiring fashion blogger?
It takes time to grow and requires work and dedication. It’s also easy to follow the masses and lose your own style identity. Stay true to yourself and your style preferences. Every trend/style isn’t made for everyone.

Just for fun, if there was a movie to be made about your life, which celebrity would you want to play you?
Sarah Michelle Gellar

Glam Girl: Katie Manwaring

We’re very excited to be introducing 23-year-old Katie Manwaring from Katie’s Bliss as our Glam Girl today! Katie has a gorgeous, colorful style which she shares with her readers, along with musings on life in New York.  We’ve loved getting to know Katie a little better and we’re sure you will too!  Read  on to discover Katie’s style secrets, her motivation to start blogging and her best beauty tip…

Katie Manwaring - Katie's Bliss

What motivated you to start your blog?
While attending college in rural North Carolina I found that I needed a creative outlet and Katie’s Bliss was born!

How does the city you live in inspire your day-to-day fashion?
My style has definitely evolved since moving to New York City! Now when I purchase a new pair of shoes comfort is a must since I do so much walking! I’m also much more open to taking fashion risks! NYC is a very fashion-forward city where anything goes. I could literally wear anything I wanted out my door and no one would blink an eye.

Who are your style icons?
I love Olivia Palermo, Blake Lively and Miranda Kerr.

Name one piece every woman should have in her wardrobe and why?
A great quality handbag that you’ll use for years to come.

What items do you always carry in your handbag?
My wallet, keys, iPhone, a small umbrella, altoids, sunglasses and lots of lipstick and lipgloss!

What is the best beauty trick you’ve ever learned?
Not to wash my hair too often. I know it can sound gross, but since my hair is color-treated and prone to dryness I’ve found that washing it less and keeping heat styling at a minimum is the best way to keep it healthy.

Tell us…what is something not many people know about you?
I’m a reality TV addict!

What are your favourite prints or colors to mix? Do you have any tips?
I have a few favorite color combos that I love to mix – orange/navy, pink/navy, black/white. My best tip would be to not over-do pattern and print mixing. If you’re wearing a striped top and floral bottoms keep the rest of your look neutral.

When you need a little pick-me-up, how do you add sparkle to your life and feel good?
I love a good pedicure or an iced coffee!

How do you start your day? Do you have a morning routine?
I always start my day by answering a few blog emails, scheduling social media updates and finalizing my post for the day. From there I got ready for work and head out the door!
