Merrick White - Merricks Art - Bloggers Closet

What motivated you to start your blog?
I started my blog when I got married, and used it to document our travel and my art. Over time it shifted to documenting my small sewing projects, and the more I posted and created, the more I grew to love style and clothing designing, and now it’s my primary focus and passion!

How does the city you live in inspire your day-to-day fashion?
Moving to a beach city a year and a half ago definitely influenced my style. There is such a casual vibe here with windblown hair, frayed edges, and hardly a close toed shoe in sight. And although I still love to get dressed up, my style has shifted to more of an effortless, relaxed feel, which I really love.

Who are your style icons?
Honestly I don’t have any specific style icons. I draw inspiration from so many designers, bloggers, celebrities, and people around me — it’s such a mix of inspiration sources, which I think helps me really develop my own style, rather than just copying someone else’s.

Name one piece every woman should have in her wardrobe and why?
A great pair of jeans. I don’t care what style or silhouette they are, but if they fit you well and make you feel amazing, then any great outfit (casual or dressy) can be built off of them.

What items do you always carry in your handbag?
Sunglasses, lipgloss, and a hair tie (and my wallet, of course).

What is the best beauty trick you’ve ever learned?
Dry shampoo. I used have to wash my long hair almost every day because it got greasy so fast. But now I use sauve dry shampoo and can go up to 5 days without washing it — life changing!

Tell us…what is something not many people know about you?
Up until about five years ago, I had almost no interest in or knowledge about style or fashion. In fact, I’m embarrassed to admit it, but I went through a little grungy period in high school. But somehow, as I got into designing and sewing my own clothes, a love for style came along and now, besides my family, it’s my greatest passion. Crazy how a few years can turn your whole life upside down.

What are your favourite prints or colors to mix? Do you have any tips?
My all time favorite prints to mix are leopard and stripes (although I just saw someone wearing gingham and floral together the other day and I’m pretty sure I could get addicted to that). If only I had enough leopard pieces to do it every day (I certainly have enough striped pieces to pull that off). When pattern mixing, go for one big print and one little print, and make sure your prints have one color in common, which helps your outfit feel unified and purposeful.

When you need a little pick-me-up, how do you add sparkle to your life and feel good?
I paint my nails a pretty color, and fill my house with fresh flowers.

How do you start your day? Do you have a morning routine?
Now that school is out, I’m trying to get in a routine of regular morning exercise. I love to get up before my kids, do a workout video, and then make myself (and them) a green smoothie. It’s the perfect jumpstart to a healthy day.

What motivated you to start your blog?
I got a new job that I could basically get away with wearing sweat pants to! I have a giant wardrobe filled with dresses and shoes and bags and I wasn’t wearing them! I started blogging as basically a reason to actually wear my clothes & do my makeup and it evolved into everything it is today!

How does the city you live in inspire your day-to-day fashion?
I don’t really think the city I live in really inspires my day-to-day fashion! I’ve always been a “walk to the beat of my own drum” kind of person when it comes to what I wear. If I like it I’ll wear it, if not I won’t.

Who are your style icons?
Right now I’m loving Olivia Palermo (obviously), Blake Lively, Jessica Alba, Emmy Rossum, I can go on and on…

 photo jackie2EDITED_zps24b07df1.jpg

Name one piece every woman should have in her wardrobe and why?
A little black dress that fits them perfectly & they feel confident in! You can dress it up or dress it down & you know you’ll look good no matter where you’re going or what you’re doing!

What items do you always carry in your handbag?
My wallet, iPhone, charger because my phone ALWAYS dies, at least 3 lipsticks (swiping on a new color can totally change your look mid day!), and a pair or 2 of sunglasses (the cheap ones because I’m always breaking & scratching them!)

 photo jackie4EDITED_zpsd9665c62.png

What is the best beauty trick you’ve ever learned?
Always wear bronzer, but not all over your face! Apply it lightly around your hairline, in the hollows of your cheeks in along your jaw & BLEND! You can thank me later for your perfectly contoured look!

Tell us…what is something not many people know about you?
There’s nothing I love more than going Upstate, turning off my cell phone & disconnecting from the world. Pretty funny considering blogger requires my to broadcast my life on the internet!

What are your favourite prints or colors to mix? Do you have any tips?
I’m all about mixing leopard & floral in the warmer weather months!! Leopard is basically a neutral & floral is a staple in my Summer wardrobe so it was just a matter of time before I put them together! I did it once & now I’m obsessed with the combination!

 photo jackie3EDITED_zps42ea16a8.jpg

When you need a little pick-me-up, how do you add sparkle to your life and feel good?
I’m all about getting a manicure/pedicure when I need a pick me up! I tend to change my nail polish every couple of days so it doesn’t really make sense for me to always go to the nail salon, so when I do it’s a treat and something I look forward to all day!

How do you start your day? Do you have a morning routine?
I like to hit the snooze button more than I’d like to admit so my morning routine is pretty simple! I usually just wash my face, brush my teeth (obviously) & put my contacts in. Get dressed & do an easy makeup look – foundation, bronzer, blush, mascara & color in my eyebrows – and I’m out the door!

Glam Girl: Cassidy

Please meet 28-year-old Cassidy June, from O My Darlings (you can follow her on Instagram) who we are delighted to feature as our Glam Girl today.  Cassidy has a beautifully feminine style which is interspersed with simple, classic items and she holds the firm belief that it is always time for sequins and polka dots.  Whatever she wears, she manages to look completely comfortable and completely glam all at once – which is what we love most about her!  Cassidy has a very personal take on what style means and we couldn’t be happier that she is sharing some of her insights with us today…

Glam Girl - Cassidy - Oh My Darlings

What motivated you to start your blog?
My blog is really just a personal journal with pictures and videos. I started it because I wanted a way to capture stories and adventures with our daughter, something I could show her one day. Once in awhile I’ll do a style or fashion related post, I think it’ll be funny to look back one day and see what I was into. I imagine one day Rylie will be scrolling through and I’ll hear her go “EW mom, I can’t BELIEVE you thought that was cool.”

Who are your style icons?
I don’t really follow a lot of “celebrities” for their style. I think the most stylish people out there are bloggers, which is why I love the idea of this site. The girls that I find the most stylish are also moms, because I think that once you become a mom your style totally transforms, and I find myself able to relate to them. Taylor Sterling (a good friend), Joy Cho, Naomi Davis…these gorgeous mamas that share little bits of their world with us via blogging are total icons in my mind.

Glam Girl - Cassidy - Oh My Darlings

What items do you always carry in your handbag?
Honestly, I just looked and this is what I found: baby wipes, lip gloss, my wallet, my cell phone, crayons, HONEST hand sanitizer, and a miniature disco ball (really).

What is the best beauty trick you’ve ever learned?
How to do a perfect ballerina bun with a sock! I swear, it’s the perfect way to put up “not so clean” hair, and still have people think you spent hours getting ready! Also, I warm up my eyelash curler A LITTLE with a blowdryer (not hot, just warm, please do not burn off your eyelashes!) and it keeps my eyelashes curled all day.

Glam Girl - Cassidy - Oh My Darlings

Tell us… what is something not many people know about you?
I’m a full time PhD student, and commute 2 hours to school and 2 hours back twice a week. I actually enjoy the commute, it’s the only time I get to pleasure read (thank goodness for audio books!).

What are your favorite prints or colors to mix? Do you have any tips?
I am so obsessed with metallics (gold, silver, champagne). Sometimes I wonder if I go a little overboard with them, but then I tell myself “Nahhh! You can never have too much gold!” I love mixing polka dots with anything, in my mind they are a neutral :) I think that fashion is so personal, and that we should allow ourselves to wear what we love. For instance, I love sequins, but I also love comfy tee’s. I’d wear a comfy tee with sequin pants or a sequin skirt any day of the week, why not?!

Glam Girl - Cassidy - Oh My Darlings

When you need a little pick-me-up, how do you add sparkle to your life and feel good?
I love having fresh flowers in our home, polish on my nails (which definitely means owning the polish since manicure are rare and I’ll need to touch it up), glitter glue projects with my daughter, and wearing sequins indoors on a rainy day. I also love to dance, in our kitchen with our daughter, with socks on so we can slide around. Those are the things that make me smile.

How do you start your day? Do you have a morning routine?
I start my day with my daughter, getting her ready and fed. I don’t even usually brush my teeth or wash my face until she is settled in with a project or game. I try to do my hair and add a little gloss on my days that I’m at home and not at school, it makes me more energized to get out and explore with her. I’ll be the first to admit though that sometimes she is dressed to the nines and I am still in sweats at our playdates. Those are the days my sock bun comes in handy.

Glam Girl: Audrey Tom

We’re excited to introduce 31-year-old Audrey Tom from the very informative style-guide, Putting Me Together. Hailing from San Diego, Audrey shares her daily fashion insights along with helpful wardrobe tips with her incredibly loyal following of fans. We love how no-fuss Audrey’s approach to fashion is and how she manages to look effortlessly chic in everything she wears which is why we are so thrilled for her to share some of her fashion secrets with us today…

 photo audrey2EDITED_zps8e140b85.png

What motivated you to start your blog?
I wanted to rework my wardrobe so that I could do more with it without having to constantly buy more. I started Putting Me Together to help me figure out how to build a wardrobe that I could mix and match endlessly. At the same time, I had talked to a lot of women who felt discouraged or overwhelmed about getting dressed, and I hoped that one day my blog would be able to help other women feel put-together and confident with their sense of style.

How does the city you live in inspire your day-to-day fashion?
San Diego tends to be very laid back and casual, and I’d say my style definitely lends itself to casual. And since the weather is usually so nice I often want to wear bright colors and fun prints!

 photo audrey3EDITED_zps4216a761.png

Who are your style icons?
Celebrities like Reese Witherspoon and Zoe Saldana and other bloggers like Kendi from KendiEveryday, and Merrick from Merrick’s Art.

Name one piece every woman should have in her wardrobe and why?
A well-fitting blazer! Besides being worn to an office, you can use it to dress up a t-shirt and jeans for a casual but chic look for going out, or you can pull together a casual look. If your lifestyle is on the casual end, you don’t have to get a super nice blazer–go for a more comfy material like ponte. It’ll instantly pull together any type of look, whether casual or dressed up!

 photo audrey4EDITED_zpsba4f2c77.jpg

What items do you always carry in your handbag?
Over the years I’ve tried to carry less and less. I’m currently down to a wallet, phone, chapstick, keys, a small bottle of lotion, and a pen. Pretty minimal!

What is the best beauty trick you’ve ever learned?
Apply blush with a big, fluffy powder brush. First of all, I never used to wear blush. Once I started to, I got all sorts of comments on a consistent basis about how I looked like I was “glowing.” People thought I was extra happy about life, but it was really the blush! Applying it with a fluffy powder brush helps it look more natural.

Tell us…what is something not many people know about you?
I took hip hop dance classes back in the day!

 photo audrey6EDITED_zpsf079ee8c.png

What are your favourite prints or colors to mix? Do you have any tips?
I never thought I could pull off yellow, but thanks to blogging I now add yellow to a lot of my outfits! I’ve paired it with a lot of different colors, but some of my favorites are yellow + coral, yellow + turquoise or any shade of blue, yellow + green, and yellow + grey. If you are like I used to be, thinking yellow wouldn’t work on you, I’d suggest trying different shades of yellow. You might be surprised! Or, if you still aren’t sold on wearing a yellow top, add yellow accessories that are away from your face, like a long yellow pendant, belt, or flats.

When you need a little pick-me-up, how do you add sparkle to your life and feel good?
Chocolate ice cream. Always. :)

How do you start your day? Do you have a morning routine?
I definitely have a routine! I get up and take a 20 minute walk and pray at the same time. That might sound strange, but I’m a pretty spiritual person and try to start my day getting centered and grounded. The walking helps my body wake up, and praying helps me focus myself for the day. After that, I’ll eat breakfast and read the bible for a bit. Finally I’ll take a shower, get ready, and get going with my day.

What motivated you to start your blog?
The very fear that I couldn’t do it and be successful at it is what forced me to give fashion blogging a try. I am a firm believer that the things we want most are on the other side of fear and we have to step outside our comfort zone and face our fears to truly be happy with our lives, who we are and to realize our full potential. Little Miss Fearless is about facing my fear to share a budding talent in the most critical and judgmental industry there is: fashion. I don’t claim to be all things to all people, I know I’m not a supermodel or runway designer, but sharing my love for different ways to style and create (and playing dress-up through it all) has been a fun journey and an eye-opening experience. I have learned the importance of self acceptance and overcoming challenges that ultimately always come from the fear to try.

How does the city you live in inspire your day-to-day fashion?
The longer I’ve been blogging, the more aware I am of the styles I see all around me. Salt Lake City (and Utah in general) is a pretty unique place. I’m not even sure I can put a finger on how to describe it, but I feel I am more inspired by those I interact with in my day-to-day life than I am by strangers I may pass on the street or at the mall. I think personality is a key component to personal style that people often overlook. When I feel inspired by someone’s personality, their clothing and style come to life. I work full-time as a PR manager for a digital marketing company so I spend a lot of time in an office, but it’s a casual environment that welcomes different styles beyond your typical corporate dress code. I don’t dress as creatively at work as I do on my blog because I want my professional talents to be noticed before my appearance is (maybe I’m weird that way), but I’m often inspired by other women I work with who exemplify fearlessness in simple things like wearing a bright shade of lipstick or trying a fun hairdo (or my 2014 resolution: walking around in loud heels!). And I love that about where I live/work. I am always sure to find someone who is completely comfortable with who they are and it shows in everything they do. That to me is the best inspiration.

Who are your style icons?
I love love love Zoe Saldana and Blake Lively. They never appear to be trying too hard with their style. I’m often inspired by the unique textures and designs they wear to red-carpet events, but also love their casual, street-style looks as well. When I’m looking for “outside-the-box” inspiration, I turn to Jenna Lyons and Olivia Palermo (SO FAB!). Also, my first discovery in the blogging world was Blair Eadie, so I’ll always have thing for her, too.

 photo Amanda2EDITED_zps335ed291.jpg

Name one piece every woman should have in her closet and why?
What piece shouldn’t we have in our closets?! I think every girl needs a smashin’ good pair of skinny jeans, heels (whatever height works for you) and a white v-neck tissue tee (I recommend J.Crew’s). Sometimes the simplest outfits are the most eye-catching. And who would turn down casual comfort?

What items do you always carry in your handbag?
I always intend to keep my handbag mostly empty, but it seems to accumulate everything by the end of the week. My essentials are a pair of sunglasses, my fave MAC lipstick in “Angel,” my fave Victoria’s Secret lotion “Pure Seduction,” a pen, my wallet and some gum.

What is the best beauty trick you’ve ever learned?
I’m sure I have so much to learn still, but one I’ve been using for a while is heating my eyelash curler with the blowdryer before using it. It makes my lashes stay curled all day.

Tell us… what is something not many people know about you?
Hmm. I am half Norwegian, I played basketball in high school and one year in college (although, I always wished I was a dancer), my favorite TV shows are Seinfeld, Modern Family and Extreme Weightloss, and I always hated science, but I won the state science fair in 7th grade.

 photo Amanda3EDITED_zps469fe5d5.jpg

What are your favorite prints or colors to mix? Do you have any tips?
My favorites are always changing. Lately, I love mixing leopard with just about anything. But that’s what’s so fun about fashion. The seasons change, the styles change and we’re continually inspired to try new things (something our fears would want us to be afraid of).  My tips for pattern play and color combos are to broaden the inspiration you consume. I find inspiration everywhere, from the people I surround myself with, to favorite catalogs, instagram accounts, pinterest, magazines, even random things like home decor and office buildings. You’ll get out of it what you put into it, so fill your mind with ideas and you’ll definitely surprise yourself.

When you need a little pick-me-up, how do you add sparkle to your life and feel good?
Nothing makes me feel better than working out. (Sometimes I have to remind myself of that because it always sounds so hard.) But honestly, if ever I need a pick-me-up, it’s usually because I’ve started telling myself negative things about how I look or that I’m not capable of facing some kind of challenge. Whether I’m running, lifting weights or attending a TRX class, I always feel better after I’ve physically released negative feelings. I also love the accomplishment I feel after a hard workout. In a simple way, I’m showing myself that I CAN do something that is hard for most people, and then I feel confident I can face any challenge that comes my way. And if it’s a body-image issue, well, we all know the gym is a great place to start for that.

How do you start your day? Do you have a morning routine?
I am NOT a morning person, so my routine is short due to my inability to ever wake up as early as planned (resolving to change that in 2014 with early gym classes). I typically drink a protein shake as soon as I’m out of bed, then wash my face, brush my teeth, do hair/makeup and lastly, get dressed. Nothing too fancy (I wouldn’t leave time for it if I wanted to).

Glam Girl – Aubrey Kinch

We’re over the moon to be introducing 24-year-old Aubrey Kinch from Phoenix, Arizona as today’s Glam Girl. Aubrey is the creative genius behind her self-titled blog Aubrey Kinch where she shares her musings on life, helpful tutorials and lifestyle tips along with a dose of her gorgeous personal style.  Aubrey is positively an inspiration to all who follow her and today we’re very lucky to have her share some of her inspirations with us…

 photo Aubrey3EDITED_zpsc0f3993d.jpg

What motivated you to start your blog?
After being newly married, I wanted a space to write about our life and to keep our friends and family updated as we’re a Facebook free household (crazy, right?!). It started as a simple update here and there but slowly evolved into something my fashion forward with design features and a sprinkle of everyday life on the side.

How does the city you live in inspire your day-to-day fashion?
Quite honestly, it doesn’t much. Living in PHX it’s hard to dress for the climate all the time with fashion and trends changing and progressing while also seeing so many amazing outfits and such online. I want to pull from what I see I love but being in the heat proves super difficult to wear that light jacket with cut off shorts & wedges when it’s boiling at 120 degrees outside. Us Arizonians can really only survive the climate with pools so ideally, we dress to stay cool as best we can meaning I often suffer through being a sweaty mess just to look stylish… ;)

Who are your style icons?
Lauren Conrad is my absolute fave, she can do no wrong! I’m also super into Khloe Kardashian’s style a bit. She has this chic, edgy vibe I love!

 photo aubrey4EDITED_zpsdef34e6e.jpg

Name one piece every woman should have in her wardrobe and why?
A timeless leopard clutch. It can be so easily transitioned through the seasons with adding different colors and it’s a neutral so you can’t go wrong. It’s also fun to throw on with jeans and a blazer or be a little more sassy pairing it with a cocktail dress for drinks out.

What items do you always carry in your handbag?
I can’t leave my house without my Ray-Ban gold rim sunnies. They’re my weakness and go with everything!

 photo aubreybagEDITED_zps5662c79e.jpg

What is the best beauty trick you’ve ever learned?
A little bronzer makes a huge different. When I’m in a pinch, I just throw a touch on my cheeks and around my face and it’s an instant mood lifter. Also eyebrows- a little filling frames your face and adds such a wow factor!

Tell us…what is something not many people know about you?
Hmm, not many people know I was a competitive dancer for 16 years of my life. It was like a full time job after school, dancing 4-5 hours a day, every day! I loved it and miss it daily!

What are your favourite prints or colors to mix? Do you have any tips?
I’m so minimal when it comes to color and I’m really trying to push that comfort level lately. I’ve always been a fan of leopard whether it’s in the winter with olive greens and taupes or in the summer with a neon yellow or bright coral. I also can’t get enough stripes paired with floral so I tend to gravitate towards a classic striped top and floral scarf!

 photo aubrey2EDITED_zpse012a0e4.jpg

When you need a little pick-me-up, how do you add sparkle to your life and feel good?
A pedicure always does the trick for me, even more so being pregnant now, it’s something I look forward to every couple weeks. Fresh flowers are also so enjoyable to have around the house!

How do you start your day? Do you have a morning routine?
Not traditionally. I am a step-mom to an 8 year old so the weeks we have him, I’m in mom mode and the weeks we don’t I take advantage of my sleep to catch up. If I have a leisure morning, I love taking my coffee on the couch with my pup while browsing blogs and Pinterest for a bit but realistically, that happens maybe once a week.

 photo Glam5EDITED_zpsf7bd31fe.jpg

What motivated you to start your blog?
I started Oh So Glam almost 3 years ago on a whim after following some other fashion blogs for years! My friends and family were always asking for fashion advice and where my clothes were from so I thought, why not?! I never expected it to take off like it did.

How does the city you live in inspire your day-to-day fashion?
I live in New England and while I’m not the preppy girl, the changing seasons definitely inspire my look throughout the year. I become a little more boho in the summer and edgier in the winter months!

Who are your style icons?
Olivia Palermo is hands down my favorite style icon. She has a way of mixing real high and low pieces together and I love that she’s someone who actually re-wears items!

 photo Glam4EDITED_zps5f9ff016.jpg

Name one piece every woman should have in her wardrobe and why?
Right now, I’d say the little lace dress. I’m obsessed and own too many, but they are so easy to throw on during a hot summer day and still look put together! For cooler nights, I pair with a blazer or light leather jacket and statement sandals. It’s the perfect day-to-night piece!

What items do you always carry in your handbag?
Usually about 4+ pairs of sunglasses and every lipstick imaginable!

 photo GLam3EDITED_zps7802c4b8.jpg

What is the best beauty trick you’ve ever learned?
I never really spent much time on my eyebrows but since they are having a moment, I’ve been filling them in with Benefit’s “Gimme Brow” gel and it’s made a huge difference! I love that the gel is buildable so I can add more for a dramatic look. Eyebrows frame your face so it’s important not to skip them!

Tell us…what is something not many people know about you?
In the blogging community, not many people know I used to be a professional cheerleader, and people are always surprised when I tell them!

 photo glamEDITED_zps995ba5b1.jpg

What are your favourite prints or colors to mix? Do you have any tips?
I’m a neutral lover… if you open up my closet, almost ALL of it is white, black, grey or tan (with pops of colors or prints). I love how polished pairing neutrals together looks. A grey tee with a crisp white blazer is one of my favorite go-tos!

When you need a little pick-me-up, how do you add sparkle to your life and feel good?
Picking up some fresh flowers always brightens my home so I’ve made that a weekly task! An at-home mani/pedi always seems to solve things too!

How do you start your day? Do you have a morning routine?
Coffee is the first thing that needs to happen! While that’s brewing, I usually feed my himalayan cat Mischa and start to dig out of my email!

Glam Girl: Alexandra Grant

Please meet our Glam Girl: Alexandra Grant, a 26 year-old who writes the beautiful Vancouver-based style blog To Vogue Or Bust.  Alexandra made the decision a few years ago to change her career path from something sensible and stable to something she was truly passionate about – fashion journalism.

We’re glad she did!  Her writing is eloquent and inspiring and we love seeing her incredible style played out in the outfits she shares with her readers.  Read on to discover more about Alexandra, her fashion inspirations, how her surroundings influence her style and her favorite beauty items…

 photo Alexandra5EDITED_zps732902db.jpg

What motivated you to start your blog?
I was intending to go to law school after university because I felt as if it was a more “practical” path, even though my passions really lay in fashion and writing. I eventually decided it was more important to follow my passions than money, and the rest is history!

How does the city you live in inspire your day-to-day fashion?
Vancouver has so much natural beauty, so much so that I try to stay comfortable in my day-to-day in order to get the most out of the city, whether that’s walking the sea wall or going for a hike in the mountains!

Who are your style icons?
Catherine Deneuve, Charlotte Casiraghi and Françoise Hardy.

Name one piece every woman should have in her wardrobe and why?
A good pair of skinny jeans.

What items do you always carry in your handbag?
Lip products! Generally speaking, I’ll have about 8 options rattling around in my bag.

What is the best beauty trick you’ve ever learned?
Mastering highlighting has been my best beauty trick – it’s the perfect way of looking pulled-together without layering on tons of makeup. If I’m in a rush, I just do the top of my cheekbones, my brow bones, inner eye corners and a touch above my eyebrows!

Tell us…what is something not many people know about you?
I was the most awkward person that could’ve ever possibly existed in high school. I played the French horn AND the classical guitar, had braces the whole time, went through my “baby fat” phase throughout and liked to hang out with my guidance counsellor a lot. It was a magical time.

What are your favourite prints or colors to mix? Do you have any tips?
I love stripes with anything, and am always drawn to a classic red-white-black combo.

When you need a little pick-me-up, how do you add sparkle to your life and feel good?
Every weekend I go to Granville Island Market (down the sea wall from our apartment) and pick up fresh flowers and lots of fresh produce – I love eating well and nothing feels as abundant as having a bunch of healthy choices around. And when I really need it, I head downtown and do a little shopping!

How do you start your day? Do you have a morning routine?
I work full-time on top of the blog so I usually get up, have hot water with lemon, make my coffee and breakfast and then sit down to eat in front of my laptop (sad but true!). I’ll get all my social promotion set up for the blog, catch up on a couple of emails and then I head to the bathroom. I put on a thin clay mask and while that’s drying, I dry brush then wash it all off in the shower. I then apply coconut oil for my body and rose hip oil for my face, throw on some clothes, put on a touch of makeup and my hair usually air dries in that time!

What motivated you to start your blog?
A city girl at heart, when my husband and I bought our house in the suburbs, I started the blog to prove that regardless of a postal code, style can prevail! (Yes, even in the suburbs!)

How does the city you live in inspire your day-to-day fashion?
Now that I live and work in the suburbs, it can be difficult to draw inspiration. I look to Pinterest, Tumblr, magazines, fashion blogs and street style when I’m in Toronto to remind me of what else is out there.

Who are your style icons?
While there are a handful of socialites, fashion bloggers and classic names I have always admired, my mom has always been a constant source of inspiration for me. She’s never afraid to take risks or shy away from colour and I love it!

Name one piece every woman should have in her wardrobe and why?
Just one would be tough but I’d probably say a great pair of black pumps. They’re versatile, classic and can take most outfits up a notch.

What items do you always carry in your handbag?
Wallet, personal phone, work phone, business cards, gum, bobby pins, MAC lipstick, nail file, pen, notebook, keys, backup charger… I could go on ;)

What is the best beauty trick you’ve ever learned?
If you dab white shimmer eye shadow above the middle of your top lip, you can make your lips seem fuller and more rounded.

Tell us…what is something not many people know about you?
I used to play drums in an all boy band!

What are your favourite prints or colors to mix? Do you have any tips?
There are few colours or patterns I shy away from :) Some personal favourite combos are pink and red, leopard print and yellow or bold stripes with an accent colour.

When you need a little pick-me-up, how do you add sparkle to your life and feel good?
I’ve recently gotten into the habit of buying fresh flowers for our house. I love the fresh dose of color it breathes into the space!

How do you start your day? Do you have a morning routine?
I am definitely not a morning person! I must hit the snooze button 3 times before I actually get going and then I’m typically in a mad rush. Needless to say, my beauty routine is typically quite simple and relaxed during the work week. Oh and coffee is a MUST!
