Pattern Play – Polka Dot

Pattern Play – Polka Dot: It was Marc Jacobs who said ‘I never met a polka dot I didn’t like’ and we couldn’t agree more! We love this pattern for its cute and playful agenda that never goes amiss. Whether you decide to style a full polka dot romper or prefer a more subtle inclusion in the form of a pencil skirt – you can be sure you will be turning heads for all the right reasons! Perfect for mixing prints, this pattern is gorgeous when teamed with leopard print or a bold horizontal stripe.  We’ve been searching high and low for our favorite polka dot ensembles. Tell us, which look do you like the best?

Fall Trend – Sleeveless Trench

Fall Trend – Sleeveless Trench Coat: Oh how we love layering in the Fall and there is no item better to do so than the sleeveless trench coat. Made famous by the likes of Audrey Hepburn, the sleeveless trench is an edgy twist on a wardrobe classic.  We adore a look thats casually elegant, with the trench left open over a contrasting color or pattern. It is a wardrobe item that is impossibly versatile, a sleeveless trench looks just as good with a pair of skinny boyfriend jeans as it does with a leather skirt. We suggest you play around with combinations and select an outfit that suits both the weather and the occasion. Tell us, do you own a sleeveless trench coat? How do you think it looks best when styled?

Color Me – Powder Blue

Color Me – Powder Blue: Sometimes when it’s cold outside, it is wise to wear a color that’s soft and pretty to lighten your look and make you feel good about it! Powder blue, baby blue, pastel blue: whatever you call it, a pale blue shade is delightfully fresh for this time of year, and makes a definite statement in a sea of grey and black. It’s impossibly delicate, yet creates a look that is sharp and eye catching – especially when worn in the style of a long coat, a full dress or a blazer. We’ve been on the hunt for some pastel blue hues to swoon over. Tell us, which is your favorite look?

Glam Girl – Lauren Ashley

Glam Girl – Lauren Ashley: We are over-the-moon excited to be introducing you to one of our newest closet owners, 20-something year old Lauren Ashley from The Fashionista’s Diary!  Lauren Ashley hails from Miami, Florida and shares a daily dose of fashion and style with her loyal following of readers. We adore Lauren Ashley’s classic yet playful style and never tire of browsing through her fabulously chic ensembles!  Make sure you visit the closet of The Fashionista’s Diary to shop the gorgeous items listed and read on to discover all about Lauren Ashley, her style inspirations and what motivated her to enter the wonderful world of fashion blogging.

 photo fashionista6EDITED_zps830fcf05.jpg

What motivated you to start your blog?
I started my blog because I’ve always wanted to inspire others. I know, that sounds cliche. But it’s true! I also always dreamt of having my own little creative space where I could share with anyone and everyone the evolution of my sense of style, as well as my own personal growth! Ever since I can remember, I’ve been fascinated by all things fashion and beauty. I started when I was younger. I no longer let my mom pick out my outfits in the morning (this was at age three!) and I started dressing myself. I love how everyone has a different sense of style and how that represents who you are and what kind of person you are.

How does the city you live in inspire your day-to-day fashion?
Miami is a melting pot. It’s definitely a bit crazy and overwhelming at times, but I’ve grown up here so I’m used to it. It’s definitely influenced my style because I’ve tested the limits, tried out different trends and have really pushed my boundaries because of Miami. It’s also always (almost) hot in Miami. So definitely preparing outfits based on the weather, whether it’s winter or summer, has been a huge factor in my day-to-day fashion.

 photo fashionista1EDITED_zpsbdece7d5.jpg

Who are your style icons?
My style icons would have to be Olivia Palermo and Jessica Alba. I love their classic yet feminine style and wish I could take a few things from each of their wardrobes!

Name one piece every woman should have in her wardrobe and why?
Every woman should have a LBD. But, besides that, I think every woman should have one nice purse. Why? Because it’s an investment. I started saving and buying purses when I was young. It was my thing and still is. I love purses but I especially appreciate those purses that I saved up for. Purses are something you can keep forever. So why not save up, whether it be in a piggy bank or savings account, for the purse of your dreams?

What items do you always carry in your handbag?
I always have a lipgloss. My favorite is Dior Addict Lip Glow. It really just enhances your own lip color but is moisturizes at the same time. I have a business card holder from Vera Bradley that holds my business cards (you never know when you’re going to need them). I also have my big wallet, my little keychain wallet, a small perfume bottle to freshen up after a long day, an umbrella to prevent a potential wardrobe and hair disaster, a notebook to jot down any ideas for the blog and my powder. Oh, and I also always carry gum! You never know when you’re going to be craving that garlic bread roll…

 photo fashionista5EDITED_zpsb928a9e5.jpg

What is the best beauty trick you’ve ever learned?
Not to wear makeup everyday! I know, as girls, it’s hard. But if you let your skin breathe every now and then, you’ll see a huge difference.

Tell us…what is something not many people know about you?
One thing not many people know about me is that I am extremely (and I mean extremely) sensitive. I take everything to heart and it kills me when someone is unhappy with me or doesn’t like me. My family always tells me that not everyone is always going to like me, but it still kills me. I also used to be bullied all throughout middle school and high school. In a way, my blog is a way to show those who hurt me that I’m not knocked down, but instead standing up taller than ever.

What are your favourite prints or colors to mix? Do you have any tips?
I love mixing leopard and plaid! It’s my latest favorite. I also love leopard and stripes. Basically, anything leopard. If I could give one tip to anyone mixing prints, I would say to just go for it. Ask a friend or two before heading out the door (trust me, this will only benefit you!) and feel brave and confident in your decision to really just go for it.

 photo fashionista3EDITED_zps0ab15f6a.jpg

When you need a little pick-me-up, how do you add sparkle to your life and feel good?
When I’m feeling down and want to feel better, I buy fresh flowers. There’s something so great and uplifting about a fresh bouquet and it’s really something I enjoy. I also love getting manicures. Not for anyone else, but for myself. It’s a great feeling looking put-together even if you don’t feel your best. Dress to impress no matter how up or down you’re feeling!

How do you start your day? Do you have a morning routine?
I start my day by getting woken up by my chihuahua, Iggy. I then wash my face, brush my teeth, eat some breakfast and the rest of the day depends on what my plans are. Sometimes I’ll work on some posts and answer emails before I head out the door, while other days I’ll be catching up on Scandal.
